Franz Phillipp Zech

Franz Zech was an organ maker who may have served in the Bavarian Army.


Ole Olsen Twede

Julie was her younger sister.

Ole Olsen adopted the surname Twede (derived from Twedestrand, his home town, a fishing village in the southeast of Norway), because every man in his boarding house was named Ole Olsen. No relation to any of them, it was just a very common name and they kept getting their mail mixed up.

In 1841, family moved to Sarpsborg. In 1847 came as a seaman to New York. Ship's carpenter in the Norwegian navy. Converted at sea, became a Methodist in 1857. Received Preacher's License July 4, 1859. First church in Fredrikshald in 1863. Ordained a Deacon in Bremen, Germany in 1862. Ordained 1870. In 1871 became Superintendent of Methodism in Norway. Started Methodist newspaper and wrote and published books. Helped found and headed first Methodist Theological School in Norway.

In 1880 moved to America, to Chicago for 3 years, then Bethelship, Brooklyn for 5 more. Back to Norway for 2 years, Superintendent of Bergen District.

Then to Seattle First Church. Magazine editor, Paster of the Second Congregation in Portland and the Portland Circle (five churches). Retired 1899. Returned to Seattle in 1906, bought a house and died in 1907.

Spoke and wrote in Norwegian, Swedish, Danish, German and English.
